The activities developed in the context of the project “Improving Access to Civil Justice in Latin America” are presented below by country.

The goal of each of them was to promote more equitable and efficient justice for all.

Sanagasta (La Rioja) pilot project. Pilot project to implement Justice Houses in Argentina, 2017.

Pilot project: Community legal education in Argentina. The main purpose of this project was to provide education and legal guidance to Argentine justice system users. It was inspired by the Community Legal Education Ontario (CLEO) initiative and Legal Hand (New York). The goal was to create a community legal education system. 2017.

Seminar held in Bogotá: Colombia’s New Judicial Agenda, 2019.

Assistance provided to the Supreme Court. Development of two manuals. In an effort to support the implementation of Costa Rica’s new code, JSCA developed two manuals for the Court to increase the knowledge of judges and attorneys of the new oral civil justice system. Seminar: Launch of manuals on litigation and hearing management in Costa Rica. To mark the completion of JSCA’s technical assistance in Costa Rica, a seminar was held to present and distribute the litigation and hearing management manuals developed by the Center, 2018.

Pilot project: Justice and Social Context. Judicial education in social context (JESC) is a broad concept that includes such topics as diversity, social inequality and socio-economic and cultural issues. It focuses on the notions of equality and justice, 2019.

Seminar on the public discussion of issues that have emerged during the development of civil proceedings from the perspective of litigators and judges. The goal was for participants to analyze the viability of implementing measures aimed at facilitating proceedings based on the use of oral procedures in response to social demands for celerity and legal security, 2018.

Pilot Project: JSCA developed a pilot project with the Mexico City court to implement litigation techniques and oral hearings. JSCA has signed a collaboration agreement with the Mexico City Superior Court to implement a pilot project on a group of civil oral courts.
The goal is to introduce hearing management and oral litigation techniques, 2020.

Inter-American Training Program on Civil Procedure Reform (PIC).

JSCA and the Nicaraguan Judiciary signed a collaboration agreement on March 13, 2018. The Center supported the implementation of the new civil procedure code, creating an observatory and developing a new training course on advanced procedure skills for Nicaraguan judges, 2018.

Seminar: The Outlook for Judicial Procedure Reform in Latin America. The goal of the event was to critically analyze civil justice in Latin America, providing a space for the exchange of ideas, assuming a proactive stance and establishing a wide range of goals, 2018.

JSCA provided technical assistance to the Supreme Court of Uruguay for the implementation and evaluation of a pilot plan on judicial management and the use of oral proceedings. The goal was to support the implementation of a pilot project for improving judicial management and the use of oral proceedings in the 1st Professional Civil First Instance Court of Montevideo, Uruguay, 2017.
